Hardware Overview
The Guardian vehicle tracking unit uses
12-channel Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to locate and
track a vehicle to a high level of accuracy. The GPS component of
the tracking unit is also WAAS capable to provide even higher
accuracy where WAAS signals are available.
For data communication the tracking unit supports
a range of wireless networks including GPRS/GSM, 1XRTT/CDMA,
Microburst, AMPS, 802.11, satellite (Orbcomm) and CDPD. A single
unit can be configured to simultaneously support two different
wireless networks and automatically seamlessly switch between
supported networks to provide additional coverage and backup
communication. This significantly reduces the possibility of
completely losing communication with a remote unit.
